Our Story
Just Keep Shrimping began with a simple question: why do some shrimp colonies thrive while others struggle? That question grew into a deeper interest in genetics, microbiology, water chemistry, and selective breeding. Today, every colony is maintained with a focus on long-term health, genetic stability, and responsible selection rather than short-term production. We believe better results come from understanding the biology behind the aquarium. By combining scientific thinking with practical experience, we strive to produce shrimp that are healthy, vibrant, and ready to thrive in their new homes.
Our fascination turned into a deep dive into the literature of aquatic biology. We realized that much of the advice in the hobby was anecdotal, so we began applying the same rigorous testing we use in the lab to our own shrimp room. We transitioned from 'keeping' shrimp to 'breeding' them with a focus on genotype over phenotype.
We created this website to document our journey and to provide a resource for others who want to move beyond basic maintenance. For us, every tank is a micro-ecosystem, and every colony is a living experiment in selective breeding and genetic stability.

We aren’t just hobbyists; we are geneticists and scientists. Our professional background allows us to look at a shrimp colony not just as a collection of colourful pets, but as a living genetic population. This perspective informs every decision we make, from culling protocols to environmental management.
This scientific background gives us a unique perspective on 'tank maturity.' Instead of chasing temporary water parameters, we focus on 'farming microbes.' By encouraging diverse biofilms and stable bacterial colonies, we create an environment where Neocaridina can thrive and express their full genetic potential.
From understanding dominant and recessive color genes to managing the epigenetic effects of water quality, we use science to remove the guesswork.
